The meaning
True Words represents accurate language.
Some situations remain confusing because the words being used are too vague, too softened, too dramatic or simply incorrect.
Naming something does not solve it automatically.
But accurate language changes what can be discussed.
This card asks:
What is actually happening?
Not:
What word protects everyone's comfort?
And not:
What word produces the strongest reaction?
The goal is precision.
When this card appears
It may matter when:
- language has become vague;
- euphemisms are obscuring a problem;
- conflict revolves around different definitions;
- you are struggling to describe what you need;
- emotional labels have replaced concrete description.
Reflection
Language shapes perception.
Consider the difference between:
“I'm overwhelmed.”
and:
“I have agreed to three deadlines that cannot realistically coexist.”
The first describes an internal state.
The second reveals structure.
Likewise:
“They don't care.”
may become:
“They have cancelled our last four plans without proposing another time.”
Accurate description creates options.
True Words often invites movement from interpretation toward observable reality.
It also matters internally.
A person can remain trapped for years inside a problem they have never allowed themselves to name honestly.
Relationships & connection
In relationships, True Words should be balanced by Tender Truth.
Accuracy does not require cruelty.
But kindness that prevents honest naming often creates longer-term confusion.
Work & direction
Use precise language around:
scope;
performance;
cost;
deadlines;
risk;
ownership;
expectations.
“Soon” is not a deadline.
“Better” is not a specification.
“Enough” may need a measurable definition.
During change
Naming what has ended can be part of accepting that change has occurred.
Likewise, naming what is beginning can make the transition more concrete.
What to notice
The shadow is weaponized “honesty.”
Saying something harsh does not automatically make it more truthful.
Precision should reduce distortion, not increase harm.
A small invitation
Describe the situation in one paragraph using only observable facts.
Then write your interpretation separately.
Notice the difference.
Journal prompt
What word or sentence am I avoiding because naming it would make the situation harder to dismiss?
Symbols & visual vocabulary
- illuminated writing;
- parchment;
- spoken breath becoming light;
- inscription;
- open book;
- clear ink.
